Bocas Del Toro
Bocas del Toro is a province located on the northwest corner of Panama near the Costa Rican border on the Caribbean side. The archipelago of Bocas del Toro is situated in and around the Bay of Chiriqui. This isolated region of Panama has only recently been discovered by international travelers and has quickly become one of Panama’s most popular tourist destinations. The average max daily temperature is right around 88° F and the average low is 70° F. There are 7 main islands that make up the bulk of the archipelago: Colon, Cristobal, Bastimentos, Coral, Popa, Zapatillas and Cayo de Agua. The town of Bocas del Toro is located on Colon Island which is a 30 minute water taxi ride from the town of Almirante. Colon is the most developed area with numerous hotels, restaurants, grocery stores, shops and medical clinics.
The Bocas del Toro islands are a diver and outdoor lovers paradise with unspoiled coral reefs, deep-sea fishing, boating, kayaking, snorkeling and long sandy deserted beaches. The islands are full of exotic wild life of every kind from the top to the bottom of the rain forest canopy. Howler, white faced and spider monkeys inhabit all of the larger islands of the group. Three and four toed sloths are very common sights as well as numerous different kinds of reptiles, birds, amphibians, fish and sea turtles. Bastimentos National Park which encompasses a large portion of Bastimentos Island, Zapatilla Cays, Crawl Cay and Red Frog Beach is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Bocas del Toro.
In recent years, Bocas has been experiencing a real-estate boom. While, prices of land have skyrocketed they still represent some of the best buys in the Caribbean. Many new lovely newly built homes dot the island coasts these days. A majority of the property is held under right of possession rather than title but the recently passed 31-12-09 law 80 has made the titling process much easier and affordable to convert the land into titled ownership. If you are looking for a second home, a retirement home or buying a piece of land to either build a house or hold as an investment, Bocas del Toro is a great place to land.
